LATVIEŠU STRĒLNIEKA STĀSTS (THE STORY OF LATVIAN RIFLEMAN) directed by Pāvels Armands, 1958
The legendary Latvian Riflemen are an inseparable part of Latvia’s history. During World War I they were known far beyond the borders of Latvia and even the fate of the Russian revolution was sealed by them – ordinary young factory hands from the suburbs of Rīga. In the crossfire of the mighty Russian and German armies they fought for a Latvia that would be Latvian and finally succeeded in 1919. For the leading role of Janka Pipars Eduards Pāvuls was awarded his first Soviet Latvian State Award. |
