SALNA PAVASARĪ (LATE FROST) directed by Leonīds Leimanis and Pāvels Armands, 1955

The post-World War II period of the history of Latvian cinematography began with this film. Before then the film directors in Soviet Latvia came from Russia. This was also the first cinematographic adaptation of Latvian classical literature, and, for the first time under the Soviets, most of the filming crew were employees trained in the local Latvian film studio. Its high quality earned it a place in the 1956 Venice Film Festival.
