THE FIRST SHOOTING OF A FILM IN LATVIA

Already 15 years after the famous Brothers Lumiere first attempted to show moving pictures on the screen, motion picture cameras started rattling in Latvia - cameraman Alexander Stanke started to film in 1909, but in 1910 he captured on film the visit of Nicholas II, the last tzar of Russia, in Riga and the unveiling of a monument dedicated to Peter I. During 1920’s A. Stanke was a cinematographer of several Latvian feature films.
